Pangio is a genus
of about 25 species of freshwater
fish
in the loach
family
(Cobitidae). In earlier taxonomic
schemes it was known as Acanthophthalmus. It is most well known for the kuhlii loach, Pangio kuhlii, which is often kept by aquarists.
These fish are best represented in the Sunda Islands
, where 16 of the species inhabit. Other species are known from India
and Myanmar
.
In 2007, four new species of Pangio were described.
