of Comilla. Its population is approximately 2,000. Although Paiyapathar is a village, due to modern urbanization it has most of the modern facilities available in Bangladesh. Paiyapathar is part of the Companigonj region along with two other villages, Gunjor and Vinglabhari. Companigonj is renowned for its historic market area.

The name Paiyapathar is a compound of two Bengali words: paiya (meaning touched) and pathor(meaning stones), to thus mean "touched stones".
