Painting It Red is the seventh original album released by The Beautiful South
in October 2000. The album is the band's joint longest, with 19 tracks. The bonus version contains 20 tracks (includes "White Teeth"), and sometimes comes in the format of two discs, while the American release offers only 17 tracks.
The album made it to number 2 in the charts, but despite the number of tracks, only two singles were produced: "Closer Than Most", which reached number 22 in September and the double A-side "The River"/"Just Checkin'", which reached number 59 in December.
