Having spent the majority of his playing career in the lower divisions, İpek never represented Turkey at youth level. However, his impressive form for his club in the early part of 2010, where he scored 7 goals from midfield and also saw Bursaspor challenge for the title, saw him called up for national duty. He made his international debut at the age of 23, on 3 March 2010, in a 2–0 friendly win against HondurasHonduras national football team
