As a youth player Kļava played for FK Liepājas Metalurgs youth team, making his first-team debut in 2002. That same year he made his Eurocups debut and was sent of against Austria

 and signed a three-year contract with them in August, the same year. Kļava was given the nr. 83 jersey and, despite his surname being Kļava, he has his name Oskars written on it. He played 11 matches in the first team, as well as 12 matches in the reserve team, scoring 1 goal.

In August 2011 he was given to FK Khimki on a half-year loan, finding it hard to get a place in the starting line-up after Roberto Carlos
