The line was independently run until taken over by the Great Eastern Railway

 in 1887. Operation was taken over by the London & North Eastern Railway in 1923.

The goods yard was used by a coastal defence howitzer in World War 2.

British Railways took over operation of the line in 1948. Lightly used throughout its life, the station closed in 1955 and the loop and goods yard were closed at the same time.
