Order of the War Banner
Encyclopedia
Order of the War Banner was decoration of SFR Yugoslavia, 7th highest decoration. Order was founded by Presidency of People's Assembly on 29 December 1951. It was awarded for military merits to "military commanders who show personal courage, self-sacrifice, ivolvement in commanding and distinct role in creation, fixing and training of Armed Forces of SFRY during the war".

Public competition was annonced for creation of Order of the War Banner. Result of the competiotion was published in Politika

 on 27 August 1953. The winner was architect from Belgrade Grigorij Samojlov.

From establishment of the order in 1951 until 1984, there was 209 recipients of the order; 204 of them are Yugoslav citizens, while other 4 were Soviet generals (who were awarded in 1964).

Decoration was dissolved on 4 December 1998. Before that it was also used by Federal Republic of Yugoslavia
