, may have been built circa 1756. Its original date of construction can not entirely be confirmed. There is an old date listed on the cornerstone of the Inn that indicates the year 1756, which would make it the oldest building in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania

It may not only be fascinating for that reason, but also for the possibility that it may be the only structure that still exists from the French settlement days of Pittsburgh before the English came and built Fort Pitt. There are supposedly account ledgers from the Inn that have been found at the Carnegie Library from 1793 to 1796. That seems to suggest that the tavern was around by the late 1700s. It was added to the List of City of Pittsburgh historic designations on October 6, 2009.
