Since first opening its doors in 1978, the October Gallery has promoted the art and artists of the Transvangarde or trans-cultural avant-garde

; work by artists who, whilst at the forefront of their own culture's artistic practices, are also alive to cross-currents and developments taking place in the arts practice of other cultures. In more than twenty-eight years of showing art from around the planet, the October Gallery has exhibited the work of artists from over sixty-five different countries, and from regions that include Africa, Asia, Australia, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, India and Oceania.
