Oberthur Technologies is a French secure technology company, providing security services in smart cards, printing, identity, and cash protection. As of 2008, Oberthur's revenue was €882 million.

History

In 1842, Oberthur Printing was founded by printer and lithographer, François-Charles Oberthür

In 1984, Jean-Pierre Savare took over the security printing activity and founded Oberthur Technologies.

In 1993 Oberthur Technologies has acquired Axytrans, French manufacturer of Intelligent Banknote Neutralisation systems.

In 1993 Oberthur Technologies has acquired De La Rue Card Systems and created Oberthur Card Systems.

In 2007 activities were consolidated to create Oberthur Technologies.

Card Systems

 technology and associated services. The clients are mobile operators, financial institutions, transport operators and conditional access system providers.

Security Printings

Since 1842, Oberthur Technologies Fiduciary Division is the world’s third largest private banknote producer, specialized in printing and personalization of secure documents for government applications.

Identity

The Identity Division specialized in documents such as passport, identity card, driving license or health care card and associated services for both governmental and corporate markets.

Outside activities

In June 2011, Jean-Pierre Savare purchased a controlling interest in the Paris rugby club Stade Français, rescuing it from a potential bankruptcy filing. His son Thomas became club president as part of the deal.
