because she was selling excess produce without a permit. As of October 25, 2011, a Conditional Use Permit from the city of Oakland which Carpenter submitted on May 4, 2011 (and cost $2,858.13) was pending.

Carpenter's newest book, The Essential Urban Farmer, co-authored with Willow Rosenthal, will be released on December 27, 2011.
