Novant Health is a not-for-profit healthcare organization based in North Carolina
that covers an area with than 3.5 million people in 34 counties reaching from Northern Virginia to Georgia. Novant was formed July 1, 1997 by the merger of Carolina Medicorp of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Presbyterian Health Services of Charlotte, North Carolina
. The system has 16 hospitals, four philanthropic foundations, three nursing home and senior residential facilities, nearly 350 physicians clinics, outpatient surgery, imaging and diagnostic centers, rehabilitation programs and community health outreach programs. Novant employs 26,000 people and has more than 1,100 physicians in its medical group.

: Novant hospitals achieved national nursing magnet status in 2008. Only five percent of all hospitals nationwide have earned this designation, which recognizes facilities that provide the highest level of nursing care.
2008 Ernest A. Codman Award: Novant received this award for improving system-wide quality and safety of care patient care. Novant staff was recognized for successful efforts to improve hand hygiene compliance which resulted in a 53 percent reduction in hospital methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection rates across the organization.
