. They were originally nicknamed the Brickfielders because of the local brickworks, but changed their name to the Dragons towards the end of the 20th century.

History

Northcote joined the VFA in 1908 and for the next two decades failed to have a significant impact in the league. Everything changed however in 1929 when they won their first premiership and started what was a prolific period for the club. After defeating Port Melbourne in the 1929 decider, Northcote made the VFA grand final for every season until 1935, winning three of them. The captain-coach for most of this time was ex Collingwood player Percy Rowe

 and they tasted premiership success again in 1936, their last. They won 2nd division premierships in 1961 and 1982 before dropping out of the VFA following the 1987 season.
