The Cabinet is the group of unelected heads of the executive departments of North Carolina
, which form part of the top executives in the government of the state. It is separate and distinct from the North Carolina Council of State
, the members of which are elected state-wide, and which makes up the rest of the executive leadership of the government. All Cabinet secretaries are appointed by the Governor, who is Beverly Perdue (D
) as of January 2009.

, is sometimes considered a member of the Governor's Cabinet. The President, however, is appointed not by the Governor, but by the state Board of Community Colleges.
