History

The municipality of Nord-Frøya was established on 1 January 1906 when the old municipality of Frøya was divided into Nord-Frøya (North Frøya) and Sør-Frøya
Sør-Frøya

(South Frøya). Its initial population was 3,972. On 1 January 1964, the two municipalities were reunited as Frøya. Nord-Frøya's population was 4,348 at the time of the merger.
