Nicolas Certain de Germay de Cirfontaines, born 1966, is a member of a french noble family originated from Lorraine. He is married to Julie Bouygues, grand daughter of Francis Bouygues and niece of Martin Bouygues

Education

After graduating from Sciences Po
(1988), Nicolas de Germay joined Paris Dauphine University to complete a Master's Degree in Finance (market finance).

Career

He started his career in restructuring by joining the Paris offices of PriceWaterhouseCoopers

Following this first experience, Nicolas de Germay founded his first firm, Arnis Gestion, in 1995, and developed expertise in operating distressed businesses, designing insolvency schemes and managing corporate crises.

In 2009, he launched a new investment company called Alandia.

French society of turnaround professionals

In 2002 Nicolas de Germay founded the French society of turnaround professionals – Association pour le Retournement des Entreprises (ARE). ARE is regularly involved in the elaboration of new regulations or techniques and offers a training centre on restructuring. By the end of April 2010, ARE had more than 140 members.

International involvement

Interested in international governance, Nicolas de Germay became involved in the creation and development of a new international conference: the World Policy Conference (WPC), an IFRI event. He invested in WoPyCO, a company developing and managing WPC. 

Nicolas de Germay also serves as vice-president and treasurer for the Franco Indian Chamber of Commerce. He was strongly involved in the restructuring of Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP - largest Moroccan company) to which he became later Senior Advisor (2008–2010).
He founded Kroll Emerging Markets, a company based in Dubai established to offer restructuring services to governments or sovereign funds. While in position, he was involved in matters located in various countries such as: Morocco, India, Malaysia, Egypt, Tunisia, Senegal, etc.

He was a member of the Global Advisory Board of  BT

from 2004 to 2009.

He created the European Restructuring Unit of  KPMG in 1998, establishing a network of experts through the main European Markets.

Nicolas de Germay is regularly quoted on restructuring and corporate matters.
He has written a large number of articles for both national and international newspapers.
In June 2010 he published Mondialisation : un autre regard explaining his belief in the benefits for France of a balanced globalization.
