, Hunt was commissioned into the Royal Navy
and then became Assistant Private Secretary to Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent.
He was appointed an Executive Officer on HMS Ark Royal
in 1969. He went on to be Director of Naval Plans at the Ministry of Defence
in 1976 and Flag Officer of the Second Flotilla in 1980. He became Director-General Naval Manpower & Training in 1981 and Flag Officer Scotland and Northern Ireland
in 1983. He was appointed Commander-in-Chief Fleet
in 1985 and retired in 1987.
In 1987 he became Deputy Managing Director at Eurotunnel
and in 1991 he was made Director-General of the Chamber of Shipping
. In 1998 he was appointed Chairman of Chatham Historic Dockyard
. He was also Rear Admiral
and then Vice-Admiral of the United Kingdom
. Hunt is known to be a strong supporter of the Nuclear deterrent. He is a former Chairman of the Royal Navy Club of 1765 & 1785 (United 1889).
