The NCHS chapter of the FBLA competed in Charleston, West Virginia on March 30-31, 2009 and received high honors in Personal Finance, Public Speaking I, Public Speaking II, Community Service, Local Chapter Annual Report, and Business Math.
In Personal Finance, senior, Zachary Hanshaw achieved the high title of First Place in the state of West Virginia and will represent the state at the National Future Business Leaders of America Conference in Anaheim, California June 25-June 29, 2009.
In Public Speaking I, Brittnee Underwood achieved the title of Second Place in the state. Like Zachary, she will also be in attendance of the national conference.
In Public Speaking II, Amber Buckner achieved the title as fourth place in the state.
In Community Service, Ashleigh Taylor, Angie Adkins, and Brittnee Underwood achieved the title of First Place in the state with their homeless box project. These three individuals will be in attendance at the national conference as well.
In the Local Chapter Annual Report, Sarah Mullens achieved the title as second place in the state and will be in attendance at the national conference.
In Business Mathematics, Tim Persion placed fourth in the state, and Ashleigh Taylor placed sixth in the state.
The band has been nominated to participate in the 2010 National Independence Day Parade on July 4.

In the winter of 2008, Nicholas County High School was awarded an honor by US News & World Report. This organization listed NCHS on the top 10% of high schools in the United States. NCHS was the only high school in the Nicholas County School System to achieve this high honor, and was one of the only few in the state to receive it.WV Writing Assessment

The NCHS chapter of the FBLA plays an integral role within the business department. All students within NCHS are allowed to join this organization and are encouraged to do so to achieve business knowledge. Marching band
The Nicholas County High School Marching Grizzlies have achieved much success in the past several years. They have placed in many different marching band competitions, including Black Walnut Festival and Tri-State. At ratings festival, they received three scores of 1, which is the highest a band can score.The band has been nominated to participate in the 2010 National Independence Day Parade on July 4.
