with about 996 students enrolled, including 105 students in the sixth form which opened in September 2009. Following a September 2009 inspection, an Ofsted report classed the school with a Grade 3 (satisfactory). The school was designated as an arts college in 2000, a science with mathematics college in 2004, and a vocational college in 2006. and has received the Healthy Schools Award (Gold), Investors in People status, Inclusion Charter Mark, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Kite Mark, and the Leading Aspect Award for its collaboration with primary schools.

Theatre Company

In 2009, then year 9 students, who had taken a BTEC in Drama were tasked with putting together a theatre company. They worked with the Manchester Library Theatre and Arts teachers such as Mrs Samantha Fitzpatrick and Miss Bethan Evans, to create their first show "Asbo's and As' beens", which consisted of multiple sketches. The Main Sketch Was Entitled "The Melanie Smiles Shows".
