. The chapter is headquartered in New York City. The chapter covers the state of New York, but also draws heavily from alumni in northern New Jersey and southern Connecticut. Officially, chapter membership is around 6600, but with these additional inclusions, the total footprint grows to roughly 10,000. The chapter was the first official Texas Exes

Mission

The New York Texas Exes define their mission as such:
The New York Texas Exes is the local alumni chapter of The University of Texas at Austin. We strive to carry out the mission of The Texas Exes: To unite, inform and involve alumni and friends for the purpose of promoting, protecting and preserving The University of Texas.

Activities

The New York Texas Exes hold various reoccurring activities including monthly Happy Hours, game watching parties for football, basketball, baseball, and select other sporting contests, networking events, plus recreational sports teams including flag football, basketball, soccer, kickball and others. Annual events of the chapter include New York Cares Day, NYC Seminar (a three-day seminar for students from UT to come to New York, explore job opportunities, and network), the Lone Star Chili Cook-off

Scholarships

Proceeds from the various activities and events of the chapter go towards providing scholarships to incoming students to The University from the North East. Scholarships have ranged from $500 to $2000 and from one to four years. The chapter has provided the following total amounts of scholarships:
  • 2011 - $13,000
  • 2010 - $13,000
  • 2009 - $9,000
  • 2008 - $5,000
  • 2007 - $3,000

Awards

  • 2011 Robert Murff Excellence Award in recognition of outstanding support of career services at The University of Texas at Austin for the annual NYC Seminar

Governance

The chapter is a subsidiary of the Texas Exes

, the official alumni organization for The University of Texas at Austin. The chapter is incorporated within the state of New York as a 'Not-for-profit.' It is governed by a Board of Directors, each of whom serve one year, renewable, terms beginning on the fiscal year of July 1 and ending the following June 30. All positions are strictly on a volunteer basis. Board meetings are held on a monthly basis. , Zoe Wilson is the current chapter president for the 2011-2012 term. Brooke Carpin is the president-elect for the upcoming 2012-2013 term.
