There are several under going attempts carried out by media stakeholders to convert and transform NTV into a truly Public Service
Broadcasting (PSB) entity. NTV being currently owned by the government, has lost its editorial independence and is blamed for continuously being a government mouth-piece. As a country's only largest and oldest television channel, a need for transforming its operation into the hands of public is realized by media experts in Nepal. To this end, an independent researcher in the field of PSB Mr. Tulasi R Kafle, in his article PSB in Nepal, urges that if NTV is guaranteed its independence and is transformed into PSB model, it will be best able to promote democracy, transparency with accurate and fair flow of information.

Tulasi R Kafle further explains why is there a need of genuine PSB in Nepal, as he explains "The media in Nepal are almost likely to come under the influence of global media giants. This movement to capture the world market by the advanced media networks is already underway. The job, therefore, is to envision the trend set by multinational media giants and prepare a strategy to cope with its influence on national body polity. The establishment of real public’s public service broadcasting is the only way to safeguard nationalism as well as the cultural identity. Otherwise, the generation to come will be completely swapped up by the flow of information as rendered by those media giants in a way they want and eventually there exists many questions on every individual’s identity. The path ahead is already dangerous one; an attempt to prevent this danger would be raising awareness in the public sphere giving excessively a louder call for genuine PSB".
