National Teachers Hall of Fame
Encyclopedia
The National Teachers Hall of Fame is an American
non-profit organization
honoring exceptional school teachers. It was founded in 1989 by Emporia State University
, the ESU Alumni Association, the City of Emporia
, USD 253, and the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce. The Hall of Fame is committed to drawing the public's attention to exceptional PreK-12 teachers through a museum, teacher resource center, and a recognition program, which recognizes five of the nation's most outstanding educators each June.
The NTHF is the only facility of its kind dedicated to recognizing outstanding career teachers, to preserving and promoting education, and to inspiring others to enter the teaching profession.
The Hall of Fame annually honors five teachers who have demonstrated commitment and dedication to teaching children. The first induction of five teachers was held in June of 1992. To date, 100 teachers have been inducted into The National Teachers Hall of Fame representing 32 states and the District of Columbia.
