The National Institute of Science and Technology (abbrv NIST) is an engineering college in Palur Hills, Orissa

. It was started in 1996 by a few NRIs, some of who belonged to Orissa. This institute was set up and is managed by the SM Charitable Educational Trust with the aim of promoting higher technical education. This was the first engineering college under Berhampur University

It has four main buildings: the LECTURE HALL COMPLEX, the OCTAGON, the NIST BUSINESS SCHOOL, and the GALLERIA. It has a very large capacity boys hostel, one girls hostel which is under construction, one swimming pool, one lawn tennis court, and one basketball court. The college is known for its discipline and hard working students. Dr. Ajit Kr. Panda is currently the Dean of the college. The college accounts for both curricular and extra curricular activities. It is located 12 km from Berhampur
City in southern Orissa (towards Andhra Pradesh), and 16 km from beach resort town of Gopalpur-on-Sea. It is well connected by road and train with all major cities including Bhubaneswar
