. It represents over 63 organizations from cities across the country.

It has existed since 1999, but it gained legal status only in 2000. This came after a court battle which saw the Alliance's right to exist confirmed by the Supreme Court of Justice

Over the years ANOSR has played a crucial role in defending students' rights and representing local organizations at a national level.

ANOSR is the only National Students' Union from Romania represented in the European federation European Students' Union (ESU). Ligia Deca, former ANOSR president is the current chair of ESU.
