Origin

Created by a basset hound breeder, Joe Smith, in 1996, this breed was actually a cross between the Munchkin

and the Persian cat. The result of which was a dwarf cat that had a silky, plush coat. Though it was created more than 10 years ago, the breed has just been given its registration. However, it is not a champion breed and cannot take parts in some shows. The breed may also have Exotic Shorthair bloodlines. It has been formally recognized by two cat clubs: The Dwarf Cat Association and The International Cat Association

. The creator Smith had often seen long-legged Munchkin cats in shelters, as people preferred the short-legged kittens. He wanted to change this and after a lot of research, mated the Persian with the Munchkins. Napoleon cats are often called the more enchanced versions of the Munchkins. the Persian blood brings in more beauty, better bone structure, and lush coat to the otherwise boring Munchkin. Now, even if long-legged kittens were born, they would still look beautiful and not be left to the mercy of a shelter. It is considered a new breed and is also very rare.

Traits

It is a very small cat, about the size of a Munchkin cat. It has a fully rounded head and face, with large and round eyes, set moderately apart, which can be blue and green. Unlike the Persian, it has a straight and broad nose, and which is not flattened. The most important characteristic is its short legs, which is the gene inherited from the Munchkin

. It has a plush coat that can be either short or long. Another important trait is that its skin and coat can hold up to six hairs in one hair follicle, which is why is feels so plush. It has a medium-length tail, short white whiskers, and pointed ears with slightly rounded tips. It comes in an array of colors and patterns, with usually having either solid or bicolor, in colors including smoke, gray, black, fawn, brown, chestnut, orange, red, and white.

Personality

The Napoleon is an easygoing, fun-loving pet. It is playful and active, and they will keep their owners entertained and smiling. It is a very cute and social cat, but is not all widespread. It will often do well with children and other pets, so it makes a great family pet.

Care

It has very few health issues, but some can be prone to polycystic kidney disease

, which it inherited from the Persian. However, unlike the Persian, due to the straight nose, it is not prone to any mucus related issues. The cats need only a moderate amount of grooming. Shorthairs should be brushed once a week, while longhairs should be brushed about twice a week.
