He was the son of Mir Jafar
and his third wife Munni Begum. He was the tenth Nawab of Bengal
and the third from the Najafi dynasty. Only sixteen when he became Nawab, he reigned under the regency of his mother. He died of smallpox on 10 March, 1770.
