Mythology (Black Metal Band)
Encyclopedia
Mythology is a North American black metal band from Plattsburgh, New York, U.S.A., formed in 2004 by drummer Narroth. The band uses the name Mythology because of their lyrical writing style which features their fascination with various mythology, history, ancient cultures and religion. Although Mythology is predominately considered black metal, the band is also noted as having death metal influences that can be heard in some of their music.
. Everything was steady for the band until mid-2009, when the band was forced to replace Lord DCLXVI. The band had also decided at this point to resign from the Morgue House Records roster for undisclosed reasons. This was right before Mythology had released their latest demo, Tepes, which involves a lyrical concept on the fifteenth century ruler of Wallachia
, Vlad the Impaler. Despite its long duration, Mythology insists that this release should be considered merely a demo, as they are planning on re-recording it for the release of their first studio album in 2010, which will also feature bonus material. After releasing Tepes, Mythology quickly found Tony Hanson (Kolossus) to manage bass duties.
The early days
In mid-2004, drummer Dustin Morris (Narroth) sought out to start an extreme metal band. After seeking local like-minded musicians, he had recruited guitarist/vocalist Christopher Matott (Gallows). The name Mythology was chosen in early 2005, but the project wasn't as productive as they had hoped, which was mostly due to conflicting schedules and being unable to find dedicated musicians. This led to Dustin going in and out of the band with drummer Dylan Barber (Destruction) filling in for him. During which, Chris had recruited guitarist Justin Stroup (Skinny), and bassist Ben Purucker (Lord DCLXVI). At this point, Mythology had two demos under their belts, It Begins (2006) and The Plague (2007). It wasn't until late 2007 when Dustin returned and was able to fully dedicate himself to Mythology. An Infernal Grave
Mythology was signed to Morgue House Records shortly before the return of Narroth. After having a steady line-up for several months, they recorded the E.P. entitled An Infernal Grave through Morgue House Records. The E.P. consists of four re-recorded songs that originally appeared on the band's 2006 demo, It Begins. The E.P. had a positive reception from listeners, and a video was also made for the E.P.'s title track. However, the E.P. was limited to one hundred hand numbered copies, but it would be available on Infernal Black Alliance, a split with Vermont black metal band, Nåthruzym.Tepes
