In an interview given to MTV; Starr confirmed that the single had sold at least 360,000 units, and over 130,000 units sold in its first week. The number of sales is particularly remarkable as the single had no promotion on iTunes. Although popular, My Religion was not released on any other form of media including CD. The 2005 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records noted that Ryan Starr had sold the most exclusive-single downloads in iTunes' history. Although "My Religion" was slated to be available in stores in early 2006, iTunes refused to release Ryan Starr's single from contract.
