 But J.D. becomes uncomfortable when Kim begins pressing J.D. for a talk about their relationship and how they feel about each other; J.D. decided in the previous episode that he had no longer loved her, and was staying in the relationship only for the baby's sake. After J.D. reveals his true feelings, Kim is shocked and outraged. She, in turn, decides to end the relationship and summons Elliot

 to help her through labour. J.D. is sad when the relationship ends, citing statistics that say that children with parents who are together are better off. However, Dr. Cox tells him that statistics aren't always right, and that J.D. is the only one who can determine whether or not he will be a good father. J.D. then reenters the room, braving Kim's abuse, in order to be with her and his newborn son, Sam. The episode ends with Kim holding Sam and commenting that, while their (romantic) relationship is over, it is also just beginning (as parents), before allowing J.D. to hold Sam.

Dr. Cox is facing a crisis himself, as his baby daughter Jennifer-Dylan has a spreading rash; He doesn't want to give her a shot, out of fear that she will associate him with pain. An extremely lazy Jordan cannot be bothered with it, and Dr. Cox is subjected to finding someone suitable to give his daughter a shot, believing the interns too incompetent. In the end, Keith gives Jennifer-Dylan the shot.
