. It holds one of the primary industrial areas of Abu Dhabi and locally known as Mussafah Sanaiya. Engineering and steel industries are the major thrust areas. Mussafah Shabiya is a fast growing residential area with apartments and villas.

Mussafah is the site for the "Industrial City of Abu Dhabi", a special economic zone. There are talks for making the Mussafah port into a big commercial port.
