, and is a largely a congested residential area with inadequate sanitation and low-quality housing. It had 633,009 inhabitants at the 2006 Census. The core centre of Mushin is centred around Ojuwoye Town. Mushin denotes the picking of a Fruit knowm as Ishin fruit which is a connotation of two words "MU"- meaning pick and "Ishin" which is a fruit. Both words form the Great legendary Mushinland that has produced notary people that has won accolade far and near. The King of this Great Land Mushin is OBA FATAI A. AILERU II (JP), a First class king and a member of the Lagos State Oba-in-council.

Economy

Mushin has about four industrial Estates which are:
  • Matori Industrial Estate — (Banking, shoes, furniture, Engineering products,Media & Telecommunication,foods and beverage Industries),

  • Ilupeju Industrial Estate — (Banking, Engineering products, cosmetics,foods and beverage Industries),

  • Aswani Industrial Estate — (Textiles Industries)

  • Ilasamaja-Isolo Industrial Estate — in which steel and aluminum products, furniture, concrete, clothing, plastics, textiles, beverages and shoes are produced.


Mushin also has many markets, among them are:
  • Ojuwoye Market — Main for food stuff, beverages and comestics is the largest retailing market in Lagos.

  • Awolowo Market - At Oloosa bus stop. - Bulk food, poultry, meat, dried and frozen fish, vegetables, yam, beauty products.

  • Ladipo Automobile Market — which is the best and large automobile spare part market in Nigeria probably in Africa.

  • Aladesuru Market - A Food and general merchandise market.

  • Daleko Market — This market is the largest market for Rice, beans, and groundnut oil in Africa has more than 40 warehouses for storing rice, beans and other food products

  • Mushin Local Government is home to many great company: Ambiyet Communication Company, Nestle Nigeria Plc, Sosaplast, Records Labels, Elubo Grammar School owned by Abigail Oredola at 11 Iyalla Street.,Abelson Engineering Company whose specialty is in metal turning, machining, fabrication and general contractor.


Mushin is also the home of Lagos University Teaching Hospital popularly known as LUTH.
