Tregonning has worked on hundreds of broadcast projects and currently heads his own audio hire company, providing rental of the latest professional audio, prompting, communications and presentation equipment, Murray Tregonning and Associates with offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

In 1996, Murray invented "MatchCom", the Referee communications system used extensively by the National Rugby League, Australian Rugby Union and New Zealand Rugby Union throughout Australia and New Zealand and the Australian Football League. Murray is also the main man behind "SportsEars", a stereo FM Radio that - when used at NRL Rugby League and ARU and NZRU Rugby games, picks up the Referees' "MatchCom" transmission and the TV commentary at the match, allowing the fans not only to watch, but also to listen to what's happening on the field.
