politician.
The second son of James Wood of Cullen, Banffshire
, Wood was educated at Edinburgh University
He was called to the Bar by Gray's Inn
in 1910, and was on the editorial staff of the Daily Mail
. In World War I
he served with the Gordon Highlanders and was severely wounded, later serving with the administrative staff of the Royal Air Force
. He was awarded the OBE
in 1919.
He was unsuccessful parliamentary candidate for Ayr Burghs
in 1918, but entered Parliament as Liberal
MP for Aberdeenshire Central
at a by-election
in April 1919 and he represented the constituency until October 1924
. He later sat for Banffshire
from 1929
until 1935
. He was an unpaid Assistant Government Whip
from 1931-1932, and Liberal Whip in 1923-1924 and 1932-1934.
