for making uplift of the grassroots are in penury, social exclusion and myriad discriminations. Mukti is registered under the Government of India Trust Act Section 64. Mukti, which means liberation, was founded in 2003. More than 500 volunteers work in the Sunderban region of India in the areas of health, education, the economy, ecology and culture.

Background

In the Background, it is looming catastrophes of social exclusion of the grassroots especially in Sunderban communities resulting in penury, violence and effete livelihoods. Lack of life-skills as well as resource dearth has increasingly been causing unemployment and chronic food insecurity ultimately results on vulnerability excess. Climate change caused by deforestation and unfriendly environmental practices in Sunderban communities is inevitably recurring naval disaster and cyclic cyclone causing livelihoods complete fiasco. Lack of community adaptation mechanisms as well as unawareness of climate resilient practices always keep Sunderban people at natural hazards subsequently causing penury, transmigration and awful violence where womenfolk and children of the grassroots are customarily being the victims of myriad menaces inter alia physical and verbal abuse, divorce and separation, illicit trafficking and compelling to sex trade and the like. Unawareness and illiteracy makes Sunderban people almost naiveté. They could not realize the intricacy of rights and empowerment nor could they seek remedies for protecting their denials extravagantly result on social exclusion and insecurity. The more there is such exclusion and insecurity the larger is the victimizations eventually make livelihoods effete.
Public sector service entities are not so instrumental to address the needs of the section or seldom respond lukewarmly due to an incommunicable context in Sunderban communities resulting in deprivation and impasse livelihoods. They are not merely deprived from rights based services and opportunities but also stereotyped as social pariah as not having civic engagement. Their rights and empowerment is always narrowed due to unjust social context subsequently being the victims of injustices, tyrannies and trespassing. No Government institutions are thinking of the things way of reducing such malaise, no community institutions are developed to mainstream them into development moves and civil society groups are always keeping their eyes rolled. And so is the increase of social and environmental imbroglios making Sunderban communities a bleak. Contemplating the endeavors it is certainly an exigency to get people organized in taking an unequivocal stand on the points of their uplift. An attempt is sine qua non to address the issues of their pessimisms. And a pursuit is indispensable to induce community led adaptation and rural economic reforms in Sunderban through practicing climate resilient cultivars. And thus, Mukti is established in 2003 at Purba Sridharpur of Raidighi in 24 Parganas (south) West Bengal, India with fervid effort of social intelligentsias patronized by an erudite social activist Sankar Halder to combat miseries of the wretched section through an institutional effort.
