The signal box
here was decommissioned and demolished in 2006, control of the line then passing to Mickle Trafford box. The station was once a junction, the line to Chester diverging to the west and the original West Cheshire Railway
line to Helsby and Alvanley to the north west. The Helsby line was lifted during the early 2000s, several years after a fire at the West Cheshire Junction signal box at the other end of the line rendered the junction there unusable.
