On 7 October 2008, Mons Ivar Mjelde announced that the 2008 season would be his last. Mjelde was officially appointed as manager for Bryne FK on 1 June 2009. In 2011 he coached Valestrand Hjellvik FK for two games before being snapped up by IK Start.
