. They moved to Los Angeles in the 1930s, where she acted in several films. She played the role of Aunt Emily on the CBS soap opera, "The Brighter Day", for eight years. After the show ended, she was asked to create the role of Emily Hastings on NBC's "Another World." She also appeared on many popular television shows of the 1950s and '60s.

Bruns wrote an autobiography, By Emily Possessed, which described her acting career and her long association as Aunt Emily. She and her husband were the parents of actor Frankie Thomas

Mona Bruns Thomas died in Los Angeles in 2000 at the age of 100. She is buried next to her husband at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
