. The Moirang C.D. Block came into existence on 4 April 1985 with its headquarters at Moirang Khunou about 1.5 km from the Kumbi main road. It has an area of 269 km² with a population of 62,187 (BPL Survey) in 67 villages.

Archeologically, the town of Moirang is famous for the ancient temple of the pre-Hindu deity, Lord Thangjing. The graceful Khamba-Thoibi dance also originated here at Moirang. There is a village called Ngangkhaleikai where the old cloth used by Khamba and Nongban are still preserved. This is a very important village of Moirang.
