. He is among the few respected political figures in the Maldives who had stood up against a corrupt Government during the time when there was no freedom of speech in the country. The struggle which him and others had gone through has made a big political impact within just 4 to 5 years. In 2007, Maldivians are now able to speak openly against the Government and the Police without the fear of being arrested, beaten or tortured. This is a complete change compared to the year 2003. In October 2008, the first Maldivian Democratic Presidential Elections were held, where people voted for a change in Government. Making the Maldivian Democratic Party Presidential Candidate Mohamed Nasheed to be the new incoming President. As the government post are decided by the President, Mohamed Zaki is to be the new Maldives Ambassador to Malaysia

During his youth life, Zaki had struggled to earn money and support his family. However he had managed to worked hard and not only support his Wife (Nazima Asir) and his five children, but he had also established one of the biggest companies in the country.
