As per modukuru historical Statement the village was a forest with full of Modugu trees.One day a trader who was sleeping under a tree in night, he got a dream, in that dream Lord Veerabhadara Swamy said to the Trader to construct a Village and a temple for him in this place. The Trader chopped off all the Modugu trees and constructed a village and named it as Modukuru.
Modukuru lies on the bank of Ireru river, Ireru river now called as Tungabhadra canal. This River dates back to 1235 BC. The village was called Morakuru by the Alexander Re in his book “Archaeological survey of India".
He wrote mainly about Kadapadu dibba. The village is called as Modupuru in Madras Kingdom, But village is called as Modukuru during the regime of Kakatiyas, Kondaveti Seema, Golukonda Kings and Mr. Boran Lord a British Historical also wrote the village name as Modukuru in his books.
From the 12th century onwards the village was called Modukuru, its present name.
It is not known exactly when the village was originally formed. With some historical records the village was formed before 302 BC.
As per historical list the village is also under leadership of French rulers during 1758.
As per historical records the village was also ruled by some of the british.
After Kakatiya Kingdom the people started their regime from 1323.
These Kings ruled the country from the Kondaveti Seema.
During their regime they spread their kingdom 14 times.
During their regime the people were treated very well and the people were very happy in the kingdom.
During his regime he spread the kingdom towards Rajahmundry, towards Kanchi and towards Sreesailam.
Jayapa participated in the Kalinga conquest of Ganapatideva and was honoured with the title “Vairigodhuma Gharatta”. He built a temple (Ganapeswara) in the honour of Ganapatideva and made a grant of many villages to the temple (1231 CE). He built another temple (Chodeswara) in the name of his father Pinna Choda in Chebrolu (Guntur district) and made a grant of Modukuru village to meet the temple expenses. According to the Chebrolu inscription (1235 CE, April 21) he also built two-storied quarters in two rows for Devadasis (Temple dancers) in front of the temple.
There are 10 water ponds in the village.
For drinking water, there are two water tanks.
Present water tank constructed on March 24, 1988 when Gadiko Ramakoti Reddy was President, with capacity of: 1,20,000 LTS.
Old water tank constructed when Movva Veera Reddy was President, but the tank (Iron Tank) is not useful condition due to the damage caused by a cyclone.

History
Before 1859 there was no Guntur district, at that time the village was in Krishna District. Before this the Village was in Sattenapally Taluk in Kondavedu seema under Leadership of Golkonda Kings (Nawabs). They have divided Kondavedu seema into 14 Samutulu.
