, Miriam is responsible for research projects on widening participation and learning within higher education as well as issues around social diversity and difference across all levels of education, including lifelong learning. She is also a supervisor for research students and education doctoral students in The School of Educational Foundations and Policy Studies (EFPS).

Miriam is interested in social diversity issues including family, gender, sexuality and social class. She has sat on the editorial boards of several journals including:

Miriam has also been an Executive Editor of the British Journal of Sociology in Education (BSA) and Co-Editor of the Journal of Social Policy and 21st Century Society.
