. The Latin spelling of its name, however, is everything but fixed. Thus the transcription from the Arabic produces officially used versions like Menofia University, Menoufiya University, or even Menoufeya University occasionally.

The University was founded in 1976. It started with four faculties with nearly 9500 students, 214 staff members and 372 assisting members. It has steadily grown to become one of the large universities in Egypt. Today the university includes 22 faculties and institutes with about 71,000 students, 1,463 staff members and 1370 assisting members.

The university has two campuses. The main campus is located at the city of Shibin El Kom, the capital of Monufia Governorate, which is 75 km. from Cairo. The university's other campus is located at Sadat City, 60 km. from Shebin EL Kom and 94 km. from Cairo.

Since its establishment, Minufiya University has been committed to providing teaching, research and public service programs of the highest quality.

Since its foundation, Minufiya University has been committed to offer teaching and research together with public service programs of the highest quality. While being involved in the promotion of sciences, knowledge and their applications, the university devotes much expertise, time and wide services to the development of the community to which it belongs.

Many of the university's projects are interdisciplinary in character and involve collaboration with industry. The various activities of the university's self-sponsored units give evidence of the dynamism of the university in this regard.

Additional information

  • Foreigners who are intending to study at the university have to send their application to the General Aliens Department, Ministry of Higher Education in Cairo. The University hostels provide accommodation for more than 6.000 students (males and females).
  • An experimental school has been attached to the Faculty of Education as a training laboratory.
  • Minufiya University has more than 2000 staff members and assistants and about 5000 technicians, administration and clerks.
  • Health care is provided to students, academic staff and personnel. Minufiya University offers opportunities to study agro-animal activities at its three farms in Shebin El-Kom, Toukh Tanbisha, and Sadat City.
  • Minufiya University has a wide activities in ecology and Environmental studies in fields of Pasteur’s, natural pest control, food processing, medical treatment, small enterprises and adult education.
  • Minufia University offers educational and research services beside public services to 6 areas in Nile Delta: Minufiya, El- Gharbia, El- Beheria, Kafr El-Sheikh, El-Kaliubia, and Al- Sharkia.
