The Ministry of Railway is responsible for overall control of Pakistan Railways
as well as to guide the overall policy. There are four (4) Directorates in this Division namely:

- Technical Directorate,
- Planning Directorate, and
- Finance Directorate.

- Federal Government Inspector of Railways
- Director Marketing
- Director Vigilance
- Railway Board is the highest body for technical matters of the Railways, which stands merged with the Division.

- Maintenance of Railway lines for strategic reasons.
- Negotiations with International Organizations and other Countries and implementation of agreements, with them.
- Coordination of Development Projects of Railways as a part of the National Development Programme.
- Standardization and specifications of materials and stores.
- Overall efficiency and safety of Railways.
- Coordination of Rail movements into and from Ports.
