Milton Galatzer was a Major League Baseball
outfielder
who played for five seasons. He played for the Cleveland Indians
from 1933 to 1936 and the Cincinnati Reds
in 1939.
Milt grew up in what was then a Jewish neighborhood around Roosevelt Road and Maxwell St. He played sandlot baseball and when he made it into the big leagues became a hero to a generation of Jewish men who dreamed of making it in America.
After his major league career, Milt served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned to Chicago after his service, spending most of the rest of his life living in Chicago. He moved to California to live with his sister Min until his death two years later. Milt never married and had no children, although he was a beloved uncle to Barney’s children, John, Dan, and Susan; and Min’s daughter, Eden.

Milt Galatzer was the middle of three children of Harry and Ida (nee Mishunsnik) Galatzer. His older brother was Barney, who was born in Russia before the family immigrated, and his younger sister, Min, who, like Milt, was born in Chicago.
