The interior is very modern, colorful, open, and well-lit. The design, being that of a school within an office building, uses larger rooms and gathering spaces more often than corridors and sealed doors, because of the unique architecture the space offers.

The school is mostly an academic based school, despite being considered an alternative, albeit, smaller, high school. However, the school has a unique partnership with the YMCA of Greater New York

Millennium High School was founded in 2002 with a $500,000 grant from New Visions for Public Schools with money donated from Bill and Melinda Gates, the Carnegie Corporation, and the Open Society Institute

Staff

Principal Robert Rhodes has been a public school teacher and administrator for 16 years. He received Clark University's Secondary Educator of the Year award in 2003.

The staff of Millennium High School all have Master's degrees and attended selective colleges and universities including: NYU, Dartmouth, University of Connecticut, Stanford, Barnard, University of Rochester, Bucknell, Columbia, Michigan, Haverford, MIT, Indiana, Connecticut College, The Ohio State University, Cornell, Rutgers, Wellesley, Skidmore, Wisconsin, UMass, Tufts, and Duke. Many have been recipients of highly competitive grants and have studied around the world.
