In 2005, Millard voters approved the fourth-largest bond project in district history, providing $78 million for the construction of Millard South, renovations to all three high schools, one middle school and one elementary school, and the purchase of new land and technology. Of that, $6.2 million was appropriated to Millard West for the building of new classrooms and band room additions. These improvements were completed Summer 2007.

Mission statement

Academics

In addition to its regular diploma, Millard West offers students one optional diploma paths: liberal arts. The liberal arts diploma is more general in scope, whereas the specialty diploma focuses on a particular subject area. Subject areas of choice for the specialty diploma include: fine & performing arts, business, family & consumer science, health occupations, industrial technology and technology. Students can also receive a 'distinguished' diploma by taking additional classes and achieving a higher GPA.

Participating students may choose to take AP exams, or also participate in Millard's dual enrollment program, which gives students concurrent credit at a local university or community college. Students wishing to take AP exams have the opportunity to apply for scholarships to reduce or eliminate the cost, and some teachers may apply for grants to enable their students to take exams for free. Athletics

Many of the school's varsity teams have gone on to win multiple state playoff victories, and in some cases state championships. There have also been a number of All-State and All-American athletes to play at the school. To the right of the entrance to Millard West there is a "Wall of Champions" that displays the photos of over 100 All-State athletes (along with other performers) on individual plaques.

The football team has won two state championships in football (2001) and (2008), and have finished as state runner-up twice. They have made the playoffs in 12 out of 14 seasons.

The baseball team has six runner-up finishes.

The men's soccer team finished state runner-up in 2001 and 2002, later winning the State Championship in 2009.

The girls swimming team has won four team state championships (2008-2011).

The dance team won the 2009 Universal Dance Association National Championship (Small Varsity Hip Hop).

Performing arts

Millard West has distinguished itself in music and theatre, winning awards and representing many All-State performers. The Wildcat band performed in the 2010 Tournament of Roses parade
