History

Mikkeller was founded in 2006 by home brewers Mikkel Borg Bjergsø and Kristian Klarup Keller with the intention of "challeng[ing] the Danes’ taste buds with intense taste adventures." Mikkeller found some inspiration for their widely-varied, edgy brewing approach "on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean where the American breweries aren’t afraid to play and break all the rules."

Awards

Mikkeller won Danish Brewery of the Year in its inaugural year, 2006, and again in 2008.

Other ventures

Mikkeller does not offer tours of its brewery, as it has none, but it does have a home base of sorts in its Mikkeller Bar, in Copenhagen designed by Danish design agency Femmes Regionales. The Mikkeller Bar offers 20 taps, cheese, and other snacks.
