Early life

Reilly was born in Hayward, California

and moved to Sonoma County in 1977.

Reilly was a former aide to Assemblyman Dan Hauser. For the decade prior to his election, he served as Executive Director of West County Community Services, a non-profit social services agency. He also served for thirteen years on local school boards in the West County.

Reilly was first elected to represent Sonoma County's 5th District following Ernie Carpenter's retirement from the Board in 1996.

Retirement

On May 27, 2007 Reilly announced that he would not run for reelection after completion of his third term at the end of 2008. He will be succeeded by Efren Carillo of Santa Rosa, who narrowly won election to the seat in a runoff against long time Planning Commissioner Rue Furch.
