Mike Libby is a contemporary American artist who created the Insect Lab. Within this lab, he combines genuine insects and mechanical or electronical components, in order to create cybernetic sculptures.

His work from Insect Lab, specifically a jewel beetle, appeared on the cover of Tachyon Publications "The New Weird" compiled and edited by Jeff and Ann Vandermeer. In September 2008, Romanian publisher, Millennium Press, printed an edition of "The New Weird" in their own language; for this edition, an image of a tarantula was used for the cover.

Current situation
Libby exhibits in many solo and group exhibitions in places such as New York, California, Virginia, Rhode Island, Philadelphia, Massachusetts and Maine. In July 2008 Libby's work form Insect Lab was included in a premiere group exhibit, "Fantastic Contraption" of Device Gallery in San Diego, California, owned and operated by Greg and Amy Brotherton. this exhibit marked the opening of the gallery and included other noted artists such as H.R. Giger, Stephane Halleux, Christopher Conte, and Eric Joyner among others.
