Michael Maloney (politician)

Michael Maloney is a Republican
politician who formerly served in the Ohio General Assembly
. A former political journalist, Maloney initially was appointed to the Ohio Senate
in 1964, and went on to win a full term in 1966, following the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and was elected majority whip soon after. He was again reelected in 1970, and served as Chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee throughout his third term, as well as majority whip.
In 1974, Maloney considered running for Ohio Governor, as well as Ohio Treasurer. However he decided to seek another term in the Senate, and won. With Republicans now in a minority, Maloney was elected their leader for the new session. Maloney was approached in 1978 to become Hamilton County Administrator
, and in the end, obtained the post. Subsequently, he was resigned his Senate seat, after serving for over fourteen years. He was replaced by Richard Finan
.
He went on to serve in his position as administrator since 1987. In 1990, Maloney was appointed Hamilton County Auditor
after former auditor Joseph DeCourcy stepped down, but lost reelection to a full term. He has since remained retired in the Cincinnati area.
